Challenge
The Ministry for Rural Affairs and the
Environment needed to redesign their aging
website in order to aim to constantly improve
on their ability to communicate their operations
and keep in touch with the public. The
main challenge for this website was to
create a portal that would be totally accessible
to any internet user and therefore abide
to the latest government website standards
issued by MITTS.
Solution
ThinkDesign produced a creative
portal for MRAE that brought together the
six main subdivisions that fall under the
ministry's control. Care was taken so as
to ensure that every image shown on the site
was given a descriptive name that would allow
screen readers to properly describe the
website to a blind user. Images and Flash
animations were also kept to a minimum.
The website features an extensive press release
area that is also updatable through UpdatePanel
(CMS). This site was nominated as one of
the three finalists at the Malta Web Awards
2004.
